Vale Ros Baxter

Vale Ros Baxter

It is with sadness we remember Roslyn Baxter who died on 25 Feb, 2021.

Ros was one of the most active, dedicated and enduring members of the Society. She was elected to the Society’s first Executive Committee as the Secretary, a position she held until her election to Lane Cove Council in 1974.  Ros remained on Council until 1995, also serving as Mayor, and her tireless dedication to the natural environment left the green legacy we see today in Lane Cove.

Ros advocated bushland for the public and recognised that native bush was not ‘alien scrub’ but had adapted and endured, although it was fragile under the onslaught of development.  She was an early advocate of the Bradley method and chaired first meeting for an association of bush regenerators in February 1985.  She was also on the Council’s Bushland Management Advisory Committee (BMAC) for almost 10years.

Ros’s contributions included promoting early Childcare and aged care services along with her environmental work and in 1994 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.

One of our founders has gone but should not be forgotten.
